Unit 13: FILMS AND CINEMA
Lesson 1: Reading
 Objectives: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
 Gain more knowledge about some kinds of films
 Identify the meaning of the reading passage about films and cinema
 Know and use vocabulary items related to films

 Teaching aids:
 The projector, the textbook, the picture, and the handout etc
 Anticipated problems:
 There maybe have some words that Ss do not understand

Some Ss will not understand when T gives the instructions in English
 Solutions:
 T teaches some new words and instructs Ss to guess the meaning of other


new words based on the contexts.
T gives instructions as clearly as possible and checks Ss’ understanding
carefully or T may use Vietnamese to clarify the instructions.

PROCEDURE
I. Warm-up: (5mins) Game: guess the name of the film.
- T gives the instruction
“I’m going to show you 5 pictures of films. Look at the picture; guess the name of the
film. If you have a right answer quickly, you will receive a small gift from me.”
- T shows each picture and asks Ss give their answers.

 Lead-in:

-After finishing the game, T asks: 1. “Do you like watching films?
2. Can you name some of the films you have seen?

3. “Do you know the history of cinemas or
films?”
 Today, we are going to read a text to know more about films and the history of

cinemas. Unit 13: Films and Cinemas – Reading”

II. Pre- reading
1. Pre-teach

- T asks Ss to match the words in the column A with the suitable definition in column B.
T’s instruction: “Now, close your book please. Then match each word in the column A
with its suitable definition in column B”
- T lets Ss do
- T calls some Ss to give their answers
- T checks and gives feedback.
- T shows answers on the board
