Executive summary
China is the world's most populous country, with a continuous culture stretching back nearly
4,000 years. Many of the elements that make up the foundation of the modern world originated
in China, including paper, gunpowder, credit banking, the compass and paper money. Weather in
China is extremely diverse: tropical in south to subarctic in north. The topography has been
divided by the government into 5 homogeneous physical macro-regions, namely Eastern China
(subdivided into the northeast plain, north plain, and southern hills), Xinjiang-Mongolia, and the
Families in China are currently categorized into four types according to their structure: nuclear
families, lineal families, joint families, other types (single-person families or families consisting
of siblings, relatives, and/or friends). In the Chinese family, the man is responsible for
maintaining, providing for and protecting his family. Traditional Chinese mothers usually stay in
the home to take care of the home, the children, and the rest of the family. Many modern Chinese
women have careers, but still rely on their husbands or fathers for financial support at some point
in their lives. The education of Chinese people is higher and higher. And the literacy rate is
improving in recent year: 98.9% in 2000 to 99.4% in 2009.
The system of people‘s congresseses is the fundamental political system of China. According to
the constitution of China, the central state organs consist of six bodies: The National People‘s
Congress, The President of the People‘s Republic of China, The State Council, The Central
Military Commission, The Supreme People‘s Court and The Supreme People‘s Procuratorate.
China is a country that accepts involvement from multiple political parties. Apart from the
Communist Party of China (CPC), the ruling party, there are eight non-Communist parties. But
in fact, the Communist Party of China holds the absolute leadership. Given the lack of political
freedoms, the Chinese government‘s legitimacy rests on its ability to deliver improved living
standards and increased economic opportunity to the masses. The government was explicitly
responsible for planning and managing the national economy. The State Constitution of 1982
specifies that the state is to guide the country's economic development and that the State Council
is to direct its subordinate bodies in drawing up and carrying out the national economic plan and
